Sodium-ion batteries represent a new generation of energy storage technology that converts electrical energy through the intercalation of sodium ions (Na+) between the positive and negative electrodes. Their fundamental principle is highly similar to that of lithium-ion batteries, but they utilize abundant sodium resources instead of scarce lithium as the active material.
 
Compared to traditional lead-acid batteries (energy density <40 Wh/kg, cycle life 300-500 cycles) and some lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery solutions (which suffer from significant performance degradation at low temperatures), sodium-ion batteries offer three core advantages:
